Composing for the HKU Music Festival

At the HKU Music Festival, we understand the practicalities of student life. That's why we're not asking for grand symphonies meant for a full-size orchestra. Instead, we invite you to create smaller, live pieces.

Our festival is not just about notes on a music sheet, but also the magic that happens when those notes come to life through real performers. We believe in the power of live music, and we're on the lookout for talented musicians who can bring their compositions to life on stage. The HKU Music Festival is a celebration of both creativity and live performance.

We understand that composing for a smaller ensemble and ensuring live performance may add an extra layer of challenge to your creative process, but it is within limitation that true artistry often blossoms. Embrace the challenge and let your imagination soar!

As you embark on this musical journey, keep in mind that computer software generated music will not be accepted. We want to hear your music brought to life by skilled performers.

The deadline for submissions is 31 October 2023, so don't hesitate to apply.

We encourage you to embrace the spirit of the HKU Music Festival, where creativity takes centre stage.

Compose on!
